Built for the Outdoors. Loved Like an Indoor Bed.

Most dog beds fall apart outdoors. The Oilskin Klam is different. Its outer shell is crafted from quality Australian-coated oilskin cotton — the same durable, weather-resistant fabric used in traditional oilskin jackets. It shrugs off splashes, resists moisture, and holds its shape in the conditions a normal dog bed simply can’t handle.

This is the bed for dogs who live an outdoor life — but still deserve somewhere warm, comfortable and protected to rest.

Ideal for:

  • Dogs who spend time on a covered verandah, undercover patio, or in a garage or shed
  • Dogs who love fresh air but need shelter from wind and cold
  • Anxious or burrowing dogs who settle better in an enclosed, den-like space

Summer Cool. Winter Proof. Year-Round Tough.

The Oilskin Klam’s reversible cushion and removable roof mean it earns its place in every season.

In summer:

  • Unzip and store the roof
  • Remove the front drapes
  • Flip the cushion to the cool cotton side for a comfortable open bed with good airflow

In winter:

  • Zip the roof back on
  • Flip the cushion to the warm, soft sherpa side
  • Re-attach the front drapes for a cosy, draught-proof hideaway that holds body heat

1 bed. 2 configurations. No compromises — whatever the season brings.

Australian Materials. Australian Made.

Every Oilskin Klam is individually cut and stitched by Choozy, a small family-run business in South Australia’s Barossa Valley. With over 30 years of making premium pet beds, they know what Australian conditions demand. The oilskin cotton is locally sourced and coated, the sherpa lining selected for warmth and washability. Nothing is rushed and nothing comes off a factory line.

What you get:

  • Oilskin cotton outer shell — quality Australian-coated cotton; weather-resistant
  • Acrylic sherpa lining — warm, soft and hand-washable
  • Reversible inner cushion — sherpa one side, cool cotton the other; allergy-free filling
  • Zip-on/off roof — store it in summer, zip it on in winter
  • Removable front drapes — add extra draught protection in cold weather

Available colours:

  • Brown oilskin with brown or cream sherpa lining
  • Black oilskin with black or cream sherpa lining

Note: Colour and lining combinations may vary seasonally. We’ll confirm your options at the time of order.

What Size Oilskin Klam Does Your Dog Need?

The right fit depends on two things: how your dog sleeps, and the space where the bed will live. A verandah or patio spot may suit an XL even for a medium dog — the extra room lets them shift position comfortably through the day.

Size Dimensions Best for (size examples)
Medium Outer dimension 56 × 52 cm (Inner sleeping area 52 × 42 cm) Cavoodles, Jack Russells, Beagles, French Bulldogs — or a large cat or two
XL 80cm × 60 cm Whippet sized dogs: eg Kelpies, Border Collies, Staffies, Spaniels, Whippets

Tip: Dogs who spend long hours outdoors tend to sprawl — if in doubt, choose XL.

Not sure? Measure the outdoor spot where you plan to place the bed. If the space allows it and your dog is over 50 cm, XL is the practical choice.

Please note: all measurements are approximate. Depending on the fabric and fill used in your chosen product, finished dimensions may vary slightly.

Important: Sheltered Areas Only

This bed is designed for sheltered outdoor areas like undercover verandahs, patios, garages, or carports. It’s not suitable for fully exposed outdoor use where it will be rained on directly or left in full weather. The oilskin outer is weather-resistant, not fully waterproof.

Your Oilskin Klam Is Made When You Order It

Choozy doesn’t keep a warehouse of finished beds. When your order is placed, your Oilskin Klam is cut, stitched and finished specifically for your dog. That’s why we ask you to allow approximately 3 weeks for dispatch — and why every bed arrives with consistent quality. You’ll receive a confirmation when your order is placed and a shipping notification when it’s on its way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it be left outside permanently?

The Oilskin Klam is designed for sheltered outdoor areas — verandahs, covered patios, garages. It’s not designed to be left in rain or full weather exposure. If your dog sleeps fully outdoors in all conditions, a heavy-duty kennel setup would be more suitable. For sheltered spots, the Oilskin Klam is an excellent choice.

Is it warm enough in winter?

Yes. With the roof zipped on, the front drapes attached, and the cushion flipped to the sherpa side, the Oilskin Klam creates a well-insulated, draught-resistant den. The enclosed clamshell design effectively traps your dog’s body heat. For dogs who feel the cold intensely, consider pairing it with a self-warming blanket inside the bed.

Is it suitable for a dog who chews?

The oilskin fabric is more durable than standard sherpa or fabric beds, but it’s not chew-proof. It’s best suited to dogs past the destructive chewing phase. For heavy chewers, we recommend starting with a trampoline bed.

How is it different from the indoor Klam?

The indoor Klam uses a washable sherpa fabric outer and is designed for indoor use only. The Oilskin Klam replaces the outer fabric with coated oilskin cotton, making it water-resistant and more durable for outdoor conditions. Both share the same clam-shell den design, reversible cushion, and zip-on roof.

How do I wash the oilskin?

Brush or dust off dirt, then carefully hand-wash the oilskin outer with a damp sponge or cloth and cold water. Avoid hot water and detergents. Do not machine wash or tumble dry — this can damage the coating. Air dry in a shaded spot out of direct sunlight. The sherpa lining and inner cushion can also be hand-washed separately.

Why does it take 3 weeks?

The bed is made individually to your order  — it’s not sitting in a warehouse. That’s why the quality is so consistent. We’ll keep you updated throughout the process.
